Recovery run. My legs are still a bit tender, but feel good enough to run. My right heel is bruised from worn out shoes. I guess the NB 790's weren't all the best. They were a great pair of shoes at first, but just didn't last with the amount of abuse I put them through.

How many miles did you have on the NBs?

From Amazon.com's product description: "Consider the New Balance MR790 Trail Running Shoe if you spend most of your time running on relatively flat routes through forest duff, grassy fields, or would like to reserve a shoe for shaving time on race day." For some reason, I don't see you running through grassy fields and the race certainly wasn't a flat route through forest duff. haha

Good job getting in a couple of miles after that killer race. I can't imagine running something like that, but the trail races sure sound fun!

Probably about 500 miles.

Yeah...those are definitely flimsy shoes to begin with, I can imagine after 500 miles they aren't much more than slippers. Which I don't think is necessarily a bad thing. I like my 790's to wear around but I couldn't run in them because the pair I got is too tight in the toe box to be comfortable for me running.

I have to admit that the inov8 roclite 295's are pretty sweet shoes...jun and nevels convinced me, and now I've got about 100 miles on them already and they are really great. And this is coming from someone who had nearly sworn off shoes entirely. They are light, and flexible, but with really good tread, and the toe box stays really roomy even with the shoes laced really tight. You may be well served to check them out...not quite as cheap as the NB, but they will probably last longer and definitely give better protection, while still maintaining flexibility and comfort. I join those guys in not being able to say enough good about them so far.
