Today's race didn't go like I had expected it to. We started out in the dark, so I didn't keep track of my splits. It got light at mile 5. I noticed my time at the 10k mark, it was 1:11 and I was already hurting. At mile 9 my whole body was aching. I was trying to run but could not go faster than a 13 minute mile. At mile 11 I started walking, that hurt too. I ran and walked as best I could for the rest of the race. My wife, who was waiting at the finish, thought that something bad must have happened and sent the medics out looking for me. I finally made it to the finish in 6 hour and 12 minutes. Unfortunately the cutoff time was 6 hours, so I am listed in the results as DNF. But the did give me a medal. I think I have some type of bug that was zapping everything I had out there today.

I would say you have some kind of bug. Yikes. That is not like you, at all. Sorry it didn't go well. Maybe it is because you've been living like a hard-working hermit lately instead of seeing your super cool friends (me, in particular). Feel better.

I am so so so sorry you were sick! Wow, way to tough it out to the finish! Hope you feel better soon. Your poor wife must've worries sick about you!

That just plain stinks you had such a rough time. Glad you made it to the finish and at least got the medal. I've been in that position with medics looking for me. It happened to me at Ogden '09. My wife was worried sick. I bet your wife was happy to see you.

sorry to hear about the tough day, but kudos for finishing. to stick with it despite the resistance from your body says a lot about you and your ability to endure. way to go.

Way to gut it out Twinkies. You obviously were not feeling it, but you still made it.

Matt, I'm really sorry the race didn't go as planned. I'm sure I would have quit on it. You've had an aggressive race schedule this year; no doubt that had some effect on you Saturday. Still, one more finish under your belt.

Thank you all for the your kind comments. Saturday night I had a high fever that broke during the night. On Sunday I felt sore and weak, but only a little more that a typical marathon. Today I felt great. I am still sore but other than that, I feel fine. I went to the doctor today to make sure things were all right. He said that I seem perfectly healthy. He took my blood to do some further tests, but said that I probably had already fought off whatever was bothering me. I may even go running before the this week is over.

Oh you poor dude. Yeah, it looks like you definitely did not feel well. I know you better than that, you would have finished way quicker than this. Don't give up though. You've got to run another one.

You know we have to give you grief that you just ran a 6+ hr road marathon!!!

Just kidding- nice job finishing even though you were less than 100%.

Oh man. At first when I saw your time I thought you were pacing someone. Hope you're feeling better.
